Yesterday we went to the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute (BIDI) and learned about HIV and tuberculosis. The picture below of the red tablets is a drug called PAS that is used for TB treatment and is manufactured in Thailand. PAS is unavailable in the United States. I thought these tablets were extremely large and I can understand how children have a hard time with adherence to this medication due to difficulty swallowing them. I also found it interesting that 30% of patients are coinfected with TB and HIV in Thailand. I enjoyed the tour of both the hospital pharmacy and the TB and HIV clinics.
