Loy Krathong Festival

Yesterday was the Loy Krathong festival which is celebrated annually throughout Thailand. This festival is to celebrate and pay respects to the goddess of water for a year’s worth of her supply. People gather around rivers and canals and release lotus-shaped rafts with flowers and candles into the water and let them float away. Last night we all went to the Asiatique riverfront market, which is one of the several locations here to celebrate the festival. Although this is a beautiful celebration, there is also much controversy as it is adding pollution to the water. Attached is a picture of the beautiful flowers they use for this festival. The Asiatique market is also a great area for shopping with many stores filled with beautiful Thailand items. We all bought a few souvenirs here to bring home to our friends and families.
